Cutting Board Care Instructions
PROPER CARE AND MAINTENANCE FOR YOUR CUTTING BOARD
When you receive your cutting board, it arrives pre-seasoned with mineral oil, ready to use. Be sure to continually season your board at least one a month with food safe oil or wax of your choice.
MAINTAINING YOUR BOARD
After using your board for the first time, it is recommended to apply cutting board wax to preserve your cutting board. The goal of cutting board oil or wax is to penetrate the wood and prevent other liquids or moisture from absorbing into the board instead. This will also help the board from warping or cracking over time. Be sure to choose an oil or wax that is food safe. We do NOT recommend using natural oils such as peanut, vegetable, corn, olive or walnut as they will eventually cause your boards to smell foul from their rich fats. Also, never use any oils from the hardware store that are meant for machine lubrication as they are NEVER meant to be in contact with anything ingested.
CLEANING YOUR BOARD
After using your cutting board, it is very important to make sure your board is clean of any liquids in order to keep sanitary. Please keep the following in mind to maximize the lifespan of your board.
- DO NOT put your cutting board in the dishwasher. The water and heat can remove the oils from the board, allowing water to then warp and crack the wood
- DO NOT submerge or soak your board in water. The woodgrain will absorb and swell causing the board to warp or crack
- DO NOT use bleach or other chemicals on your board for cleaning. This will stain and absorb into the wood exposing future food to the harmful chemicals held in the pores.
- DO NOT lay your board flat after cleaning. If one side dries while the other remains wet, this can cease the board to warp on one side.
The proper way to clean your board is in the sink using soap, warm water and either a rag or scrub to clean it off. You can run your board under water while scrubbing in order to clean off any liquids or potential bacteria from cooking. After cleaning, immediately towel dry or air dry upright so all sides can dry equally. If board shows signs of drying out or wear after cleaning, re-apply board oils or wax to maintain your board.
