Door Guard Installation and Cleaning Instructions

How to Mount: 

We recommend that you wear gloves while installing and handling the guard to prevent fingerprints.


Pick between 3 different options to secure your new guard

  1. The most popular option is to use self-tapping stainless screws.

  2. Your door guard does not have predrilled holes, another option is to have someone hold the door guard in place over the stock holes and use a marker to mark through the holes on your new guard.  From there the holes can be drilled out and bolts can be used.

  3. The final (drill-less) option to install, and our favorite, is to use 3M molding tape.  It has a very strong adhesive so a little goes a long way.  Be sure when you press it down to the door frame that it’s where you want it as it adheres quickly and firmly. 
    *On some Airstream models, a couple of the window screws can come in contact with the door guard and cause scratches.  To remedy this, swap the factory round head screws with flat head screws.


How to Clean: 

Your new door guard has been mechanically sanded as the final step in production.  This sanding leaves a nice brushed appearance but removes the outer protective oxide layer on the aluminum.  We recommend that you wear gloves while installing and handling the guard to prevent fingerprints.  Over the next few weeks the aluminum will naturally develop a new oxide layer that will help to protect it from fingerprints/water stains.  For further protection you can apply a car or aluminum wax if you would like.  The door guards can be cleaned with any aluminum cleaner and we recommend an acid based product.
