Why battery powered vs. rechargeable?
Wagan chose a battery-powered design for one simple reason: Reliability. Rechargeable units need to be recharged regularly, and they can run out of juice when you need them most – and when you might not have the luxury of recharging it. Use the included batteries and keep a spare package on hand, (sold separately) – your FRED Light Pro will be back in action with a simple tool less battery change.

Emergency Use on the Road
The FRED Light Pro was built as a safe and effective replacement for dangerous road flares. Road flares are great for being seen but pose a massive fire risk and are hard to extinguish after use. The FRED Light Pro remains cool to the touch and does not emit a flame that can start fires. Its bright LED bulbs have a life span of over 50,000 hours and are resistant to shock while remaining extremely bright. With 5 Flash modes and a 6 white LED work light, it is as useful as it is versatile.
